Uses of Propylene Carbonate

Propylene carbonate is a polar solvent used as a plasticizer, spinning solvent, dispersant for water-soluble dyes and plastics. It can also serve as an oil-based solvent and an extractant for olefins and aromatic hydrocarbons.

As an electrolyte in batteries, propylene carbonate can withstand harsh light, heat, and chemical changes. It also has certain applications in geological mineral processing and analytical chemistry.

Additionally, propylene carbonate can replace phenolic resin as a wood adhesive and is used in the synthesis of dimethyl carbonate.
